Preliminary BEAD Awards and What They Mean for Our Broadband Future

Residents of Dodge,

Late Friday afternoon, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) released its list of preliminary Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) grant awards across the state. This announcement has serious implications for the future of broadband in our community.

What We Know:

  • Starlink, a satellite internet provider, has been tentatively awarded coverage for the entire Town of Dodge and nearly all of Trempealeau County; receiving 3,222 out of 3,348 eligible BEAD locations in the county.
  • You can view the interactive award map here: Wisconsin BEAD Awardee Map

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to bring fast, reliable fiber internet to rural communities like ours. Unfortunately, rather than investing in long-term infrastructure like fiber, the PSC’s preliminary awards favor a short-term solution via satellite service.

Your Voice Matters — Here’s How to Speak Up:

Because these awards are still preliminary, there’s time to share your feedback and advocate for better broadband for Dodge:

  • Submit your comments to the PSC by Friday, August 29 Submit a Public Comment
  • Contact your local and state representatives. Let them know that Dodge deserves the same long-term fiber connectivity being proposed in other parts of the state.

Please feel free to share this message with neighbors, friends, and anyone else who could be affected.

Together, let’s make sure Dodge’s voice is heard—and that our community gets the broadband future it deserves.
